Woodpecker

This little fella was pecking away at our tree off our deck. Jude wondered what that noise was and I said it sounds like a woodpecker so we went outside and saw this guy. He used to come around a lot more but I haven't seen him in a few months. This tree is littered with bugs so I'm sure he got quite the banquet.

They are such pretty birds. Too bad they can be a bit destructive. Luckily your tree won't require as much pecking with all those bugs in Lift-the-flap style! Cool picture!

I think that's why so many bugs live in it. It does offer a lot of shelter for creepy crawly things. We may end up having to cut it down if we don't get the ants under control though. They are using the tree for food and it is becoming brittle. It loses branches all the time and at the base of the trunk you can see hallowed out holes all over. We have ant people coming every other month to spray so hopefully that will get rid of them. I'm afraid one woodpecker just isn't enough:)

I thought of you yesterday while Steve and I were walking. I thought I heard a woodpecker but we thought the sound was too loud--couldn't be. But it was. It was in a tree right over our heads. Very pretty. I wished I had a camera but then, the tree wasn't as cool as your shaggy barked one. :-)
