My poor puppy.......

So, it turns out that Ruby is allergic to some sort of insect. We think it's either fire ants or bees. This is the fourth time she's had a reaction. The first time she had huge amounts of swelling at the site of the sting/bite accompanied with hives. Her whole left side of her face swelled up. I actually had to take her to the vet that time because she turned pale white and was having labored breathing. The second and third times were only swelling, and now this time there's no swelling, in fact, I don't even see where she got stung, only hives all over her body. I've been giving her Benadryl every time I see the start of a reaction and it seems to work, so I guess I'll just have to always have some on hand. I had no idea dogs could be allergic to bees or fire ants, but the vet said that it wasn't all that uncommon.

Wow! how weird! Too bad it isn't a food that you can just avoid. But at least you know to keep the benadryl around.

I think it was the stash you had for one of your dogs that John gave to Max at the reunion when he got stung on his eye. It worked right away with surprising quickness. I was glad he had it!

Yeah, we had benadryl in our car because it also works for motion sickness, which Sydney had trouble with. Never had to use it on them for actual allergies before though.
