I LOVE granola bars! They are one of my favorite snacks. I'm not crazy about the crunchy kind; I like the chewy ones. The problem is that they are either cheap and unhealthy, or healthy and expensive. So I decided to make my own, which turned out to be a much cheaper way to get a healthy, chewy granola bar. This was my first attempt. They tasted good, but I need to up the goo. They were a little dry.

They look good except for the raisins.
Any chance you'd share the recipe? I have a great one for granola if you're interested :-)
And I agree with Lynn on the raisin part!
I'll post the recipe when I get it right. I need to figure out the proportions for the "glue."
You guys are crazy. Raisins are great! You could try cranberries if you like them.
I think mini chocolate chips would be yummy! I like peanut butter flavored granola bars. I have been looking for a good recipe, by the way, so when you perfect your recipe, I would like it!
I also am not a big fan of raisins and Steve avoids them except for on salads but he likes the granola I make and I use dried mixed berries (yes, they include raisins). I would guess that pineapple, banana chips and coconut would be yummy, too!
I'll stick with my Quaker chewy chocolate chip granola bars :) Nice and convenient...probably not as healthy of a snack, but granola bars are what I eat when I need something sweet. They are more like a treat to me.
You can make them sweet without them being unhealthy. My granola bars are still sweet, I use raw sugar and honey not high fructose corn syrup which is what most grocery store brands use.
You can make them even sweeter by adding chocolate chips or M&M's. They would make the bars not as healthy, but it would be a relatively small amount per serving and still much healthier than the ones in the store.
I used peanut butter in this recipe, Melissa, but they need more.
I'm with you Beth! Load 'em up with raisins.
